In the winter of 2001 my Mother and I traveled to California to help my Grandparents out. My Grandfathers health was in rapid decline at the time (he passed on in April of 2001) and we wanted to do what we could. We were running errands for my Grandparents, using the Ford. My Grandmother had lost her handicapped parking hang tag for her car. After a call to California DMV my Mother and I set out to their downtown Los Gatos office to pickup the necessary paperwork so my Grandmother could obtain a replacement. We saw a nice looking little shopping center next door so we parked there knowing that after getting the paperwork we could complete some other errands at the shops there. We were in and out of the DMV office in a matter of minutes, and then spent some time shopping at some of the stores in the shopping center. We picked up some pet supplies for my Grandmothers cat at a pet shop there, amongst other things.
When we returned to the truck to leave we found this racist note. I was infuriated, I was livid, so while my mother sat in the truck I started going business to business in that shopping center trying to find the moron who left it. No one of course would admit to it. But then I doubt I was particularly friendly looking right then. I am sure whoever left the note got the message that their actions were unwarranted and cowardly. I recall stating loudly that if I caught the jerk who left it that I was going to knock their teeth down their throat.
So why use the term 'Taco Truck' to refer to my cherished F150? I dunno . . . I do it because it is definitely part of the story of that truck. And I do it to disarm the insult. I laugh at the mentality of person who would leave a chickenshit note like that on a vehicle. Heh, wouldn't it be a hoot if that idiot someday stumbled across this little bit of the internet?
