Say hello to Cyrano!
This is a PMI Pursuit Pistol. No, it is not a PMI-1. It came before the PMI-1/PMI-2. The PMI Pursuit Pistol came in 2 forms, a pistol version as seen here, and a back bottle version for use with a constant air tank. Both versions were sidetapped into the valve. And the distinquishing feature of the PMI Pursuit Pistol is that it shares the PGP's 'rimfire' bolt. The later PMI-1/PMI-2 had centerfire bolts.
The Pursuit Pistol was a short lived product, quickly supplanted by the PMI-1/PMI-2. They are a rare find nowadays. This particular one has been to MAD Customs to have the CO2 capsule knob threads retapped - some previous owner had buggered them to the point of uselessness. And I replaced the seals and springs in the gun with new parts bought from MAD Customs. The CO2 quickchange you see on the paintgun is from MAD_customs also.
In the above 2 pics you can see the similarities and differences between the PMI Pursuit Pistol and the PGP it was based off of. Clearly the Pursuit Pistol is a PGP on steroids, for all intents and purposes. And you can see why I dubbed mine 'Cyrano'. It is also interesting to note that the most recent incarnation of the PGP is somewhat harkening back to the Pursuit Pistol in that it has a longer barrel. Not as long as the Pursuit Pistol, and it also does not have the lengthened bottom tube.
Here are some comparison pics between my PMI Pursuit Pistol and my PMI-1 ... to further clarify the differences between then.
In this side profile you can clearly see the slightly shorter overall length of the PMI Pistol along with its distinguishing factory side tap into the valve. And note how the top tube magazine sits further to the rear on the PMI Pistol then on the PMI-1 beneath it.
Here you can see the differences in the position of the top tube magazines. And again note the sidetap into the valve on the PMI Pistol.
In this picture I lined the 2 paintguns up sight to sight. It is interesting that the PMI Pistol has a slightly longer barrel than the PMI-1, and it still shorter overall.
So there you have it! Those are the basic visual cues to differntiate a PMI-1 from its rarer older sibling the PMI Pistol.
